Pearl Harbor Day Program at King Veterans Home

“A Day That Will Live in Infamy”
 
(KING) - The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King will host a ceremony to commemorate the observance of Pearl Harbor Day, at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009 in the Marden Memorial Center. The early morning program will include musical selections from the Waupaca High School Band under the direction of Mark Kryshak; the posting of colors by the Wisconsin Veterans Home King Honor Guard and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Military Funeral Honors Team; and tolling of the bell for the Wisconsin servicemen who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. Waupaca High School Band students Katie Sroka and Alex Weise, will sound Taps. Featured speaker of the morning program will be Lieutenant Commander Karen Firestone Muntean of the United States Navy.
 
Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Muntean entered the Navy as an Active Duty Seaman Recruit July 1988 and was commissioned to Ensign in July 1997 through the Direct Commissioning Program. After serving as Officer in Charge, Battalion Training Officer, Senior Supply Officer, and GWOT, IA Placement Officer, LCDR Muntean assumed command of Navy Operational Support Center in Green Bay in September 2009. She is Seabee Combat Warfare qualified and her personal awards include three Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, and various other awards and recognition. LCDR Muntean and her husband, Paul, are from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Lee University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. 
 
“Much of what our country and our lives are like today was shaped by events that occurred on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor,” said Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary Ken Black. “I invite all citizens to attend the Pearl Harbor Day program and to remember the strength and courage of all of our military men and women who served then and who are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces,” added Secretary Black.
