Governor Issues Proclamation Honoring Dreyfus

In honor of the passing of Former Governor Lee Dreyfus, who died on Wednesday, January 2nd, Governor James Doyle has issued the following proclamation.

 

 Governor Dreyfus was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, recruited by Wausau Post Member Jim Maas when he belonged to Post 568, Stevens Point.

EXECUTIVE ORDER # 229
 
Relating to a Proclamation that the Flag of the United States
and the Flag of the State of Wisconsin be Flown at Half-Staff
as a Mark of Respect for Former Governor Lee Sherman Dreyfus
 
WHEREAS, on January 2, 2008, Lee Sherman Dreyfus passed away at the age of eighty-one; and 
 
WHEREAS, Lee Sherman Dreyfus served with distinction as the 40th Governor of the State of Wisconsin from 1979-1983; and
 
WHEREAS, Lee Sherman Dreyfus was an education leader, having served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and also as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty and University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents; and  
 
WHEREAS, Lee Sherman Dreyfus proudly served this nation in the United States Navy during World War II; and
 
WHEREAS, Lee Sherman Dreyfus will be laid to rest on Monday, January 7, 2008;
 
          NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM DOYLE, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by Federal and State law, DO HEREBY ORDER that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the State of Wisconsin beginning forthwith and ending at sunset on Monday, January 7, 2008.
 
This notice is for informational purposes only.  The Governor only has the authority to order the lowering of flags at state buildings and facilities.  By no means is notice meant to tell you what to do at your facilities, but merely an invitation to show uniformity to the extent you wish.
