Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program.  Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme.  This years theme is  My role in Honoring America's Veterans.  Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the local, district, State (Department), national level. The Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12, who are enroled in a public, private, or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions; or in an overseas U.S. MIlitary/civilian dependant school.  Students record a original 3-5 minutes essay on a standard cassette tape or CD on this years theme.  This year we had four entries and all received participation certificates and a Voice of Democracy lapel pin.  First Place contestant received $75, second place contestant received $50, third place received $25 from the local VFW Post.  The first place contestant then move up to the District level.  This years 1st. place contestant Brit Barkholtz from the local VFW Post 7929 also won 1st. place at  the District level and received $225 from Dietrict 10.  There are 39 VFW Posts in District 10.
