The Foundation works to provide for (1) aid, assistance, relief, and comfort of needy or disabled veterans or members of the Armed Forces and their dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans, (2) maintenance and expansion of the VFW National Home for Children and other facilities devoted exclusively to the benefit and welfare of the dependents, widows, and orphans of disabled, needy or deceased veterans of members of the Armed Forces, (3) necessary expenses in providing entertainment, care and assistance to hospitalized veterans or members of the Armed Forces, (4) veterans rehabilitation, welfare, and service work, perpetuate the memory of deceased veterans and members of the Armed Forces, and to comfort their survivors, (5) to foster true patriotism through historical and educational programs and (6) support the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Relief Fund Support,
through projects, programs and activities including but not limited to the following:
The VFW Post Preservation Project works to bring together the resources for historic posts to determine the possibilities of historic preservation through parks and recreation services.
VFW Posts represent a community support center for military families and the public.  Ensuring their continued survival and preservation is a benefit to the Post and organizations it serves.

The Veterans Law Project works to engage law schools in the provision of legal clinics for military families.  These clinics shall provide pro-bono legal services to veterans and military families while assisting in the education of law students, particularly in the area of veteran services and entitlements.

The Military Blog (Milblogger) Conference brings together the military community online.

The Conference was created by VFW Auxiliary members and held its first annual event in 2006.  The conference provides a venue for discussing American military activities, media, veteran services, military support groups and networking.

The Veterans Foundation supports Choices of Democracy (COD), a neutral, non-partisan debate and forum venue.  The COD platform is open to all candidates for public offices, organizational and university elections.
COD works with non-partisan organizations to host neutrally managed and distributed debates and forums.  The platform is the only place one may find all candidates from any party on one page in a particular race giving neutrality to an electoral process.
COD does not work to influence legislature, but provides a neutral place for candidates, campaigns and potential decision makers to share and acquire evenly offered information.
The Foundation supports COD in its apolitical work to engage participation in the democratic process the world over, particularly as it relates to deployed military personnel and non-partisan participation.
