SUBJECT: NH Veterans Home’s Jodi Wakefield Receives “Above and Beyond” Award.

TILTON, NH – Jodi Wakefield, New Hampshire Veterans Home (NHVH) Clinical Licensed Nursing Assistant III, has received the Home’s “Above and Beyond” Award for November, 2009. The NHVH Above & Beyond Award was created to recognize employees who are committed to excellence and superior performance.

Jodi has worked at the Veterans Home for two years. According to Melissa Milione, NHVH Human Resources Administrator, Jodi was nominated by several co-workers, who said:

“She is one of the kindest, nicest, most empathetic LNAs. She is passionate about her job and it shows when she comes to work. She has an upbeat personality and a ‘non-stop smile.’”

“Jodi is here for one purpose: to help our veterans and improve their quality of life. She treats all with respect, dignity, and a bright smile. She not only provides great care, but she works to improve the morale of the residents and staff of the Tarr South unit.”

“Jodi is professional, knowledgeable, and caring. She tends to every detail so our veterans are comfortable. She attends every education program here so she can learn as much as possible and be the best LNA.”

As a Clinical Licensed Nursing Assistant III, Jodi provides personal care to residents. This includes bathing, dressing, feeding, assistance with walking, and conversation. Of her work at NHVH she says, “I enjoy working for the Veterans Home and my job is very rewarding. The residents are special to me and the staff supports me. They should be recognized as well, for their efforts in providing quality care throughout the Home.”

Wakefield lives in Sanbornton, NH, with her husband, Michael, and their son, Ryan, who is a freshman in college in Maine. When she’s not working, Jodi enjoys watching her son play baseball and other sporting events, and spending time outdoors, participating in activities like hiking, walking, and spending time at the ocean.

Jodi Wakefield is one of nearly 400 staff members serving the New Hampshire Veterans Home, established in Tilton in 1890 as the Soldier’s Home for Civil War Veterans.  One of just four New Hampshire nursing homes to win the first Quality of Life Award in 2007 from the New Hampshire Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), NHVH was recognized again this year by DHHS for its continuing commitment to nursing home culture change and quality of life. The NHVH campus is home to 200 men and women who have served their country and fellow New Hampshire citizens.  The mission of NHVH is to provide high quality, professional long-term care services to the Granite State’s elderly and disabled veterans.  NHVH is the only long-term care facility in the Granite State that is dedicated exclusively to veterans.
