<title>Holiday Mailing Deadlines for Military Delivery</title>
<description>Recommended Mailing Dates to APO/FPO Addresses
WASHINGTON &amp;mdash; For military service members stationed around the globe, holiday gifts are a big morale boost. To help the families and friends of U.S. military personnel, the Postal Service offers a discount on its largest Priority Mail Flat Rate box.
The recommended mailing date for the most economical postage to overseas military installations, including Iraq and Afghanistan, is Nov. 13.
Mail sent to overseas military addresses is charged only domestic mail prices. The domestic mail price for the Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box is $13.95, but for packages to APO/FPO addresses overseas the price is reduced to $11.95. Additional discounts are available for customers printing their Priority Mail postage labels online at Click-N-Ship.
Flat-Rate boxes are free at any Post Office, or can be ordered online at shop.usps.com. Postage, labels and customs forms can be printed online any time using Click-N-Ship.
The Postal Service continues to show support to those serving in the armed forces by offering free Military Care Kits, designed specifically for military families sending packages overseas. The mailing kits can be ordered by phone by calling 1-800-610-8734 and asking for the Care Kit. Each kit includes two &amp;ldquo;America Supports You&amp;rdquo; large Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes, four medium-sized Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes, six Priority Mail labels, one roll of Priority Mail tape and six customs forms with envelopes.

&amp;ldquo;Mailing holiday gifts to service members early will help insure that a piece of home arrives in plenty of time to make the celebration complete,&amp;quot; said Pranab Shah, vice president and managing director, Global Business.
To ensure delivery of holiday cards and packages by Dec. 25 to military APO/FPO addresses overseas, the Postal Service recommends that mail for service members be entered no later than the mailing dates listed below. Mail addressed to military post offices overseas is subject to certain conditions or restrictions regarding content, preparation and handling. APO/FPO addresses generally require customs forms. <title>Proud patriots celebrate Constitution</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;

Event welcomes wide-array of Washingtonians
&amp;nbsp;

A diverse crowd of over 100 people put aside political differences on Saturday morning at Veteran&amp;rsquo;s Park to celebrate the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

The non-partisan event, in its fifth year, was marked with much patriotism, pageantry, singing and celebration.

Americans and &amp;ldquo;original&amp;rdquo; Washingtonians black and white, young and old, and everywhere in-between participated in the hour-plus celebration, which started at 11 a.m.

A group of talented young girls that included Zaria Cobb, Jordan Dixon, Leland Gates, Hannah Groves and Emily Morris stole the show with a roaring rendition of &amp;ldquo;This Land is Your Land.&amp;rdquo;

The Brotherhood of Harmony, a group of foreign war veterans based out of Greenville and featuring several Washington residents, also got the crowd singing to the patriotic sounds of &amp;ldquo;North Carolina is My Home&amp;rdquo; and &amp;ldquo;God Bless America.&amp;rdquo;

Father Arturo Cabra from the Mother of Mercy Catholic Church gave the keynote address at the event. He said his appreciation of the Constitution derives from his long journey to becoming a U.S. citizen.

&amp;ldquo;The possibility of becoming an American citizen is a great benefit of the American constitution,&amp;rdquo; the native Colombian said.

Cabra received his citizenship on Oct. 28, 2008, days before the most recent presidential election. He said the right to vote is the most important right of the constitution, and he exercised it soon after becoming a citizen.

&amp;ldquo;When I think of the blood so many Americans have shed ... I am very humbled to call myself an American,&amp;rdquo; Cabra said.

Other highlights from the event included a speech about the Preamble to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights by Jeff Lewis, the national director of the FIRE Coalition, the Patriot Coalition and the founder of patriotwatchdog.com, and a speech about the authors of the U.S. Constitution and their Christian faith by Jackie Van Essendelft.

The event was co-organized by the Beaufort County Committee for Constitutional Studies and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6088.

George Schryer, district commander for Post 6088, said the purpose of the celebration was to encourage people to become knowledgeable about the U.S. Constitution.

&amp;ldquo;We need to remind lawmakers and educators the importance of liberty,&amp;rdquo; he said.

<title>Post 7032 held its recruiting drive at the Winterville </title>
<description>Saturday Aug. 29th Post 7032 held its recruiting drive at the Winterville Watermelon Festival. The day was hot but lots of people were out and about. Many stopped by the VFW display to discuss eligibility requirements, programs, and some just to chat. Both the Ladies Aux and the Comrades found fertile ground and agreed it was well worth the effort and the heat. The post members were joined by Dept. Jr. Vice Cmdr. Jason Schoolcraft and Dist. 2 Cmdr. George Schryer.

She&amp;#039;s in the Aux now its time for him. An active duty man, home on two weeks leave, is next to sign up.</description>

<title>Change in meeting time for Post 6088</title>
<description>
@This is a copy of the letter sent out to VFW Post 6088 members
to let them know of new meeting&amp;nbsp;days and why.Meeting time is 7PM.
Dear Post 6088 Member, July 20, 2009
This letter is being sent to you in accordance with the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Manual of Ritual and Procedure, Article II, Section 206,
Paragraph 3.
At our meeting on Friday, July 17th the membership voted to
change our meeting nights to the 1st and 3rd THURSDAY&amp;rsquo;S of the
month starting on the 4th of September, 2009
This was decided, by unanimous vote of all 10 members present,
in an effort to increase the number of members attending the meetings. We
discussed the fact that our meetings have historically been on Friday nights
as well as the fact that we are the only post in District 2 that meets on
Friday nights. It was also felt that many members start their weekends on
Fridays and therefore are not able to attend our meetings. There also
were potential members who stated that they could not join if the meetings
were held on Friday&amp;rsquo;s because they felt that being a member obligated them
to attend and they had previous/family commitments which would prevent
them from attending.
I again invite you to attend a meeting of your Post, meet some new
Comrades, and renew old friendships. In the last few years District 2 has
lost posts in Aurora, Belhaven, Farmville and soon the post in Swan
Quarter will cease to exist. The reason for their demise is lack of member-
ship or member participation. Please don&amp;rsquo;t let this happen to your post.
Yours in comradeship,
@
George H. Schryer
Commander Post 6088

<title>The Promised Land</title>
<description>The Ormond Amphitheatre in Bath,NC presented it production of &amp;quot;THE PROMISED LAND&amp;quot; on June 26th &amp;amp; 27th,which is a play that is based on the true story of a NC family who fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the Revolutionary War and who&amp;#039;s descendants moved to Missouri and joined the early founders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.The theme of peace and freedom from Patriot to Pioneer rings clear in the original music and touching&amp;nbsp;portrayals.This program is a family-oriented drama which is free to the public and shows every year in June,if you missed it this year you should really plan on seeing it in 2010.&amp;nbsp;
Before the regular program the staff of THE PROMISED LAND honored the branches of the military services by posting their flags and playing the military music&amp;nbsp;for each branch as the flag was posted.VFW Post 6088 of Washington,NC provided the flag carriers for both nights.The people who came to see the production gave the Vets a warm welcome as they marched out with their flag.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Once Again GOD BLESS AMERICAN&amp;nbsp;for&amp;nbsp;our VETS &amp;amp; PATRIOTS&amp;nbsp;
