Other Information: COMMANDER’S MESSAGE VOL. 03 2009/2010 SEPTEMBER 2009 Greetings to all my friends and comrades of the Post. A hearty welcome to the incoming new members and transfers. This the best time of the year to encourage those veterans who qualify for membership to join the VFW, basically because they have almost a full year of membership before their Dues are requested for renewal. Also, with the upcoming events we will have more exposure within the community than any other time of the year. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, September is a very busy month for our Post. The biggest event is the turkey Fest and its activities. It all starts on Thursday, September 17th, with the presentation of the colors followed by the parade. Everything kicks off at 5:00 PM, with the parade lasting about an hour and a half. This has been great in the past, especially if the weather cooperates. Saturday September 19th, is the day for festivities. We will have a tent set up in McLaughlin Park, right behind the library, to do recruiting and talk to individuals about our organization. We also pass out literature that may assist fellow veterans. We usually have things for the youngsters with their parents. If you have never attended the Turkey Fest, please do sol this year, it’s a great day for the family. The Post will be looking for volunteers to accomplish our participation at this annual event. Also on Saturday, September 19th, a workshop for Commanders and Quartermasters will be conducted at our Post home. This will be a two hour workshop to explain the duties of these offices, new procedures and subsequent reports. This starts at 1:00 PM. I encourage any elected officer to attend so that he/she is aware of the changes that have been adopted especially dealing with reports. If you are considering going up the ladder within the VFW, you will find this workshop very advantageous. It is September. Schools are back in session. All those school buses are back on the road. Be careful if you are out and about during their pick up and drop off times. Have a safe September.
