by VFW Post 670

As part of VFW Post 670’s and MOC PT24’s community service program, VFW Post 670 held it’s 22nd Annual Senior Citizens Dinner at the post on Sunday, November 18, 2007 under the chairmanship of Gordon Craig. The program consisted of a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings, entertainment, and gifts to the senior citizens of Cumberland County.  It is a small way we can say “Thank You” to those who have done so much for the community in which we live.

Over 150 senior citizens, post members, and workers were in attendance and one of the original founders of the annual dinners, Melvin “Papa Coop” Cooper, was able to attend from the NC State Veterans Home in Fayetteville.

North Carolina, Chapter #1 of the Rolling Thunder made up the majority of the workers who did an excellent job of setting up, serving guests, and cleaning up afterwards. Several youths from the family members were also assisting. Many Rolling Thunder members wear two hats. About 75 percent of their membership is also VFW members.

Guest arriving were greeted by MOC Pup Tent 24’s Seam Squirrel Jim Cacoulidis and the MOCA Auxiliary President Penny Cacoulidis and were seated by Post Commander Harvey Stewart and Post 670 Ladies Auxiliary President, Linda Shelander.

Once the program began, two special awards were presented to A.G. Martin and Jim Orr. These two members have worked the past 21 years of Sr. Citizen Dinners. Jim Orr’s grandson was present to accept Jim’s award.

Entertainment was provided by Ms. Angela Brady who sang a medley of songs. Dinner was them served. After dinner, door prizes were presented to the guests. Upon their departure, they were all given gift bags of fruit, crackers, and candy.

There are too many pictures to post and identify however a few have been posted. Please click on the picture group to enlarge the pictures.

by VFW Post 670

Each month, Post 670 and the MOC Pup Tent 24 alternate holding a bingo session at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. An hour of intertainment and food is provided to the patients attending the bingo. Sometimes extra food is sent to the wards for the patients that could not attend. Gifts are given out on special occasions such as Easter, Father's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Some of the men and ladies travel over 100 miles to the hospital to provide support.

Below is just one session of bingo where Comrade Dan Kelly, a VA Hospital Recreation Assistant and Post 670 member calls the bingo.
