Armed Forces Day May 17, 2008 my view a sad day

Today is Armed Forces Day.  Remember when this was a day to thank the armed forces members and view air shows and make visits to military installations?  And, for some of us, an early visit to decorate graves of relatives lost in WWII.

I searched the internet looking for references to events in North Carolina and found nothing.  It seems to me that we have lost another part of our Veteran's heritage and the active duty, reservists, and national guard have lost a chance to talk with the public about their service to America.  What will we lose next?  Independence day?
