Fall 2009 Council of Administration Report

Chairman Jim Clark reported the following activity for the NMS:
1. MAP Grants- 13 grants were applied for, 10 were approved
2. Unmet Needs- 5 grants were applied for, 3 were approved
Together the total was over $28,000.00
Also, there were 86,000 calls and 1,000,000 minutes used for Operation Uplink.

MAP Event Reimbursements
This memo provides information on the procedure for VFW Departments, Districts or Posts to request a MAP Grant reimbursement from VFW National Headquarters.
• Do not assume expenditure will be reimbursed. Each MAP Grant Application is reviewed individually.
• Get pre-approval from the MAP office before committing your Department/Post funds, if you intend to seek reimbursement.
• Pre-approval request must include event details; all sections of the MAP Grant Application must be completed. Go to http://www.vfw.org/resources/pdf/mapgrant.pdf for application
• MAP Grant Application, expense breakdown, receipts and MAP Event Project Report must be completed and submitted with you reimbursement request
• Reimbursement requests must be submitted within 30 days of the event. Event information submitted for reimbursement must be consistent with event information submitted for pre-approval.
Please distribute this information throughout your Department. If there are any questions, contact VFW National Military Services Director, Michael Penney at (816) 968-2777.

The following Fort Bragg, North Carolina units are looking forward to being adopted out to VFW posts:
C Company, 96th Civil Affairs Battalion
D Company, 1st Bn, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division
HHC, A Co., B Co., C Co, and D Co., 82nd BSB

Department Provides Funds for Family Christmas Party

As part of a joint effort, The Department of NC, District 10, and VFW Post 2972, provided $600.00 for a Burlington North Carolina National Guard company (Alpha Co. [Intel/Recon], 30th STM Battalion) to have a Family Christmas party that was held in the Burlington NG Armory. They fed more than 96 people and provided gifts to over 23 kids. District 10 Commander, "Buzz" Griggs, the National Guard Area Coordinator for North Carolina, was the key person for this activity.
