Past Grand Commander Passes

Word has been received that Past Grand Commander, Colon Warren, has died on 10 April 2008 in Fayettevile, NC.

SPRING LAKE — Retired Army 1st Sgt. Colon J. Warren, 67, of Spring Lake, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Adcock Funeral Home chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Warren was a Vietnam veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, three Good Conduct Medals and the Bronze Star for his services.

Mr. Warren was a member of the Retired Military Association (RMA) and DAV, as well as VFW Post 9103 in Spring Lake. He served as commander for five years and as deputy chief of staff for the VFW. He was also the grand commander of the Military Order of the Cooties, district commander of the VFW and a retired civil service employee.

Mr. Warren is survived by his wife, Helen B. Warren; two daughters, Deborah W. Parker and husband Roy “Keith” of Hope Mills and Sherri W. Horton and husband James of Fayetteville; and a sister, Pernell Grissom of Stedman. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The family will receive friends at Adcock Funeral Home today, April 13, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2418 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 206, Raleigh, NC 27607.
