Constitution Day Celebration
Posted at 09:57 AM on Friday, September 25, 2009 by District 2
The Beaufort County Committee for Constitutional Studies and Post 6088 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored a celebration of the signing of the U. S. Constitution Saturday at Veteran's Park in

Reverend Clara Albritton, pastor of Your day Deliverance Church of God, invoked God's blessings followed by Mike Isbell, a member of the Beaufort County Board of Education, leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Gorge Schryer, District Commander of the VFW, shared the mission statement of his group. This was followed by the Brotherhood of Harmony singing North Carolina is My Home and God Bless America.

Nana's Family & Friends: Zaria Cobb, Jordan Dixon, Leland Gates, Hannah Groves and Emily Morris, a group of young patriots sang This Land is Your Land.
Jackie Van Essendelft shared with the group an interesting review of the Founding Fathers who were instrumental in drafting the Constitution. Her thesis was that ours is a nation built on a Christian heritage by God Fearing men , giving numerous examples to support this understanding, contrary to what many seem to be trying to deny these days. You can read, and learn a great deal, from her presentation by clicking here.

Ms. Essendelft was followed by Jeff Lewis, National Director of the FIRE coalition reminding the group in closing that the heritage our Founding Fathers left us must still be supported and defended today and that doing so compels all of us who love freedom and liberty to work to defend our Constitution. He suggested that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are analogous to an "Employee's Manuel" where elected officials are the employees and We The People are the employers.

Boy Scout Troop 21 Posting the Colors

Dist 2 Commander George Schryer reads Article 1 of the VFW Constitution to let the crowd know what the Veterans of Foreign Wars is all about.

Great attendance for our 5th annual celebration.

A great mix of ages and occupations

Local government required we redesign our signs.

Giving thanks for all we have.
Can't wait for those hot dogs.

Over 140 hot dogs were given out topped with ketsup, mustard, onions and Velma Hickmans fantastic chilli.

Dist. Cmdr. George Schryer, Post 6088 Sr. Vice Cmdr. Jr. Amici and Doug Tilton from VFW Post 7032 help to satisfy the cravings.

And they keep on coming.
