RALEIGH , NC – On Saturday, April 26, North Carolinians will have an opportunity to show why their state is the Nation’s Most Military Friendly State as a Salute to Our Troops kicks off with a parade in downtown Raleigh .  It will be the largest military parade in the history of the state.  Personnel from every branch of the military and from bases across North Carolina will gather for the parade which begins at 10 a.m. with a flyover by F-15E Strike Eagle jet aircraft from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.  The parade formation will head north from the intersection of Fayetteville and Davie Streets to the State Capitol Building and then north to and around the state government complex. Military service members from the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, North Carolina National Guard and each service’s reserve group will be participating.  In addition to service members and their families, there will be military bands, drill teams and honor guards as well as marching bands from the universities, colleges and high schools of North Carolina . Vehicles including military armored personnel carriers, mobile missile launch systems, medical transport equipment and other tactical assets will also be featured in the parade. Riders on the floats will primarily be military family members.  The parade is just the start of the day’s events.

Detailed information on the parade and the day’s events is available at the event Web site: www.SaluteOurNCTroops.org.

“We felt that it was not only appropriate but long overdue to show our thanks to the men, women and families of the U.S. military for all they do for our country,” said Thad Woodard, President & CEO of the North Carolina Bankers Association, which is one of the groups spearheading the appreciation event.  “They embody our nation’s highest values.  This day of appreciation seemed a fitting way to honor their public service and personal sacrifice.  I encourage the public from across the state to come to Raleigh on April 26 to watch the parade and cheer as loudly as they can for the men and women who help to make our country great.  Make it a day trip and stay to enjoy the other events planned during the day and visit the outstanding state museums.  Let’s show our pride in what it means to be Americans as well as North Carolinians from the Nation’s Most Military Friendly State .”

The initiative is supported by a growing number of local, state, and national industries and companies. The supporters range from well-known national corporate entities to individuals and foundations. They include every bank in the state, beverage distributors, technology companies, professional sports enterprises, theater chains, fast food chains, printing concerns, trade associations, community and civic associations, global enterprises and many, many more.
