<title>Mtn View VFW attends West Plains &amp;#039;Listening Post&amp;quot;</title>

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; District 18 VSIO Ed Hawley, Ava Post 5993&amp;nbsp; Commander Jerry Garrison and Mountain View Post 3009 Service Officer Bill  Moriarty&amp;nbsp;attended a Missouri Veterans Commission &amp;quot;Listening Post&amp;quot; in West Plains  on Tuesday 20 October.&amp;nbsp; The presenter/moderator was Brigadier General Larry Kay,  Missouri Deputy Adjutant General/Executive Director of the Missouri Veterans  Commission.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Other Veterans  organizations were also in attendance as well as Service Officers from the  Commission.&amp;nbsp; The presentation focused on service to our nations veterans with an  emphasis on the facilities and resources available to support this  mission.

<title>Veterans Service Day and Recruiting Drive at Mtn View VFW</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Mountain View Post 3009&amp;nbsp;conducted a Veterans Service Day  and Recruiting Drive during the week of the 14th through the 19th of  September.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Six&amp;nbsp;Veteran Service Referrals were sent to St. Louis and&amp;nbsp;four new  members joined the Post.&amp;nbsp; Three of the Veterans are from the Vietnam era while  one,&amp;nbsp;Jim Lawson,&amp;nbsp;is a Veteran of the  Normandy Invasion,&amp;nbsp;served as&amp;nbsp;a tank gunner during the Battle of the Bulge and  was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. 


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; District 18 Commander Butch LaMont and District 18 VSIO  Ed Hawley along with Post 3009 Commander James Gould and Post Quartermaster Dan  Goff participated in Saturday&amp;#039;s activities.


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Virgil Eschrich, Butch LaMont and James Gould welcomed  new VFW members Dennis Hatton&amp;nbsp;and Al&amp;nbsp;Banuat.

<title>Mtn View VFW participated in Carter County Sesquicentennial</title>

Greetings from Van  Buren!
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;quot;Mountain View Post 3009  participated in the Ellsinore program celebrating the Carter County  Sesquicentennial.&amp;nbsp; Veteran Referral Forms, Membership Applications and Buddy  Poppy sales were the VFW&amp;#039;s contribution to this historic event.&amp;nbsp; Missouri Army  National Guard also participated in the event with professionalism and class.&amp;nbsp;  Local business were well represented while local political figures attend the  all day festivities.&amp;nbsp; Post members were able to meet local Veterans and rode  with them on the Veteran&amp;#039;s float.&amp;nbsp; The Ellsinore Veterans were presented with an  award to recognize their service to the community with Veteran Mike Evans  accepting the award from Carter County Commissioner Eddie Ballard.&amp;nbsp; Mike&amp;#039;s wife  Shelia, also a proud Veteran, and Veteran Larry Clyburn were also involved in  the days events.
&amp;nbsp;

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; A picture of Department Junior Vice Joe Lundy was presented to Commander Morgan  at the District 18 School of Instruction.&amp;nbsp; The picture was taken at the 75th  Birthday celebration of Post 3009&amp;nbsp;and was Joe&amp;#039;s last official duty prior to his  passing on June 26, 2009.
