<title>District 18 Meeting at Isabella Post 5366 - 11-7-09</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The meeting started promptly at 10:00 a. m. with 36 District 18 members and 4 guests from the Dept of Mo. 


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Opening Ceremonies by District 18 Commander LaMont.

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; CDR LaMont introduced the 4 guests, Dept CDR Dave Morgan, Dept Jr-Vice CDR Olin Parks, Dept ADJ/QM Jessie Jones and Dept Membership Director Michael Orchard;&amp;nbsp; and Roll Call was taken. There were 11 posts represented and 8 Post Commanders present. 2 District Trustees were absent (both had resigned and moved) all other District Officers were present. 


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Previous minutes were read by ADJ Kelley and approved followed by a detailed Quartermaster Report citing all receipts and expenditures (as per sec. 218, page 72, para.k. of the Manual of Procedure) by District Quartermaster ED Hawley. Said QM report was also accepted.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Following the Quartermaster Report the Post Commanders Reports and Committee Reports were given.&amp;nbsp; The National Home was then remembered and since there was no Old Business, New Business was began by the election of 2 new Trustees. Allen Dodds Jr, Post 3770 was elelcted 3 year Trustee and Shannon Willhaus, Post 5993 was elected 2 year Trustee.&amp;nbsp; They were immediately sworn into office.


    
        
            
            
            
        
    


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Post 3770 QM, Post 5366 CDR, and Post 5993 CDR make donations to&amp;nbsp; Department Commander Dave Morgan for the Dept Veteran Service Officer Fund.


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Dept Membership Director Michael Orchard speaks on membership and the &amp;quot;Honor Flight&amp;quot; program.


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Dept Jr-Vice Olin Parks talks to the gathered membership about membership.


&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; District CDR LaMont speaks on membership and that November is &amp;quot;Membership Month&amp;quot;.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; 
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; District 18 Sr-Vice CDR and Youth Chairman Chris Johnston addresses the members about the &amp;quot;Voice of Democracy&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;Patriot&amp;#039;s Pen&amp;quot; programs.

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; 
&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Dept ADJ/QM Jessie Jones informed the membership about the need to send the &amp;quot;Articles of Incorporation&amp;quot; papers from the Secretary of State&amp;#039;s Office to Dept HQ and then Dept HQ will send to National HQ to get signed by the C-I-C and returned to the posts.

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; 
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Dept Commander Dave Morgan addresses the members about the mission &amp;amp; purpose of the VFW, the Veteran Service officer program, the importance of retaining members and the need to get former members re-instated.

<title>District 18 VSIO attends West Plains &amp;quot;Listening Post&amp;quot;</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The Missouri Veterans Commission along with AMVETS, American Legion, DAV, and the VFW held a &amp;quot;Listening Post&amp;quot; at AMVETS Post 98 in West Plains, Missouri on Oct 20,2009.&amp;nbsp; Approximately 60 people attended.&amp;nbsp; The &amp;quot;Listening Posts&amp;quot; are aimed at assessing the needs of Missouri veterans.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Three members of the 18th District VFW attended;&amp;nbsp; District 18 VSIO Ed Hawley (Post 3770),&amp;nbsp; Post 3009 Service Officer Bill Moriarty and Post 5993 Commander Jerry Garrison.

<title>District 18 Veteran Benefit Days in Douglas County.</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Ava Post 5993 and Mountain Grove Post 3770 worked together to hold a Veterans Benefit Day event during the 1st Annual Mo Fox Trotters Heritage Days.&amp;nbsp; It was a two day event.&amp;nbsp; Dist 18 VSIO Ed Hawley worked both days.&amp;nbsp; Ava Post 5993 helped Comrade Hawley set up and stayed and assisted on Friday and Mtn Grove Post 3770 joined him on Saturday.&amp;nbsp; There were lots of veterans spoken with and Ava Post was able to recruit two new members and garnered three referrals and the Mtn Grove Post gathered four referrals.&amp;nbsp; It was a overcast windy cold day on Saturday and the crowd was very small.&amp;nbsp; It was quite an accomplishment to get the seven referrals since it was such a small crowd.

<title>District 18 Benefit Day at Van Buren</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Saturday, October 3, 2009 saw District Commander Butch LaMont, District VSIO ED Hawley and Post 3009 Service Officer Bill Moriarty conduct a Veteran Information Benefit Day at Van Buren, Mo during the Carter County 150th Anniversary Celebration. It was considered a success as they were able to gather 6 referrals for veterans seeking benefits.&amp;nbsp; One veteran that was helped in Fremont came by to thank VSIO Hawley for his assistance in obtaining 100% disability.

&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; District 18 Commander Butch Lamont&amp;nbsp;and District VSIO Ed  Hawley&amp;nbsp;traveled to&amp;nbsp;Van Buren on Saturday the 3rd of October&amp;nbsp;for the Carter  County Sesquicentennial Celebration.&amp;nbsp; During the day long function they were  able to answer questions from the many of&amp;nbsp;veterans attending the event  concerning Veteran&amp;#039;s Benefits and VFW membership.&amp;nbsp; Ed Hawley&amp;nbsp;completed six  Referral Forms&amp;nbsp;on Saturday afternoon.&amp;nbsp; The forms arrived in St Louis on  Sunday.
District 18&amp;nbsp;VSIO Ed Hawley&amp;nbsp;met with&amp;nbsp;Missouri State  Representative Mike Dethrow (R-153rd District) and his wife Barbara.


District 18&amp;nbsp;VSIO Ed Hawley and District 18 Commander Butch  Lamont enjoyed their conversation with Emily Sellinger, Miss Missouri  International during an afternoon break. 


District 18 VSIO Ed Hawley and District Commander Butch Lamont  thanked two members of the Missouri National Guard for their service and  for&amp;nbsp;providing&amp;nbsp;two Hum-Vee&amp;#039;s for the days activities.&amp;nbsp; The Poplar Bluff National  Guard also participated in the mile long closing ceremonies&amp;nbsp;parade in Van  Buren.
