Post 8045 & Ladies Auxiliary Share the Christmas Spirit

Posted at 06:15 PM on Monday, December 15, 2008 by Post8045

Post 8045 and the Ladies Auxiliary have been busy during this Christmas season,

A monetary donation was provided to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and  fruit baskets were delivered to those members that are currently in nursing homes or at home care.

Also, participated in the Missouri Veterans Home Assistance League  Adopt -A-Vet  For the Holidays with a donation. The money will be used to purchase a gift for the close to 150 men and women that are living in the St. James Veterans home. Not all Veterans have family that can make their season a magical time. Everyone deserves the hope and peace that the holidays promise each one of us.

New boxes of Christmas cards were sent to our service members serving overseas, so that they may use them to send back to their family and friends during the holiday season.

On December 14th the Post invited the young within the community to visit with Santa , cookies and refreshments were available for the children. Again the free service finger printing was provided so that parents can have a record of their childrens finger prints if they are ever needed.

That afternoon the members got together an enjoyed panned fried chicken and covered dishes. After the meal gifts were exchanged between the men and women who chose to bring a gift . Attendance prizes were awarded in between games of bingo that were played. It was an enjoyable afternoon had by all.

KC Star seeks help on story

Posted at 01:40 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 by Post8045

Good afternoon,

My name is Jim Fussell, and I'm a feature writer with The Kansas City Star. I'm trying to put together a story rather quickly for Christmas that would include letters sent home by military personnel at Christmas when they were overseas defending our country. It's tough to be away from your family anytime - but when you'rei n a war, and it's Christmas, it must be indescribably tough.

I don't know if you can help me. But if you can, I'm looking for the most well written, the most heart-rending letters possible, showing the love and connection people still have for their families and the Christmas tradition even thousands of miles from home.

Maybe the story will help us appreciate the tremendous sacrifice our military personnel make for this country, and help them to remember them over there even as we celebrate our faith and our freedom over here unfettered with family and friends.

If you can ask around and see if any vet you, or any family of a vet, has saved one of these Christmas letters home, I'd love to know about it. If you know of anybody, or hear of anybody who would fit my story, would you please have them call me? Thank you so much.

Sincerely,

Jim Fussell
