Monday, July 2, 2007 - Deployed Comrade A reminder that we have a fellow post member currently deployed to Afghanistan. We would like SFC Thomas A Smith to know that he is in our thoughts, hearts, and prayers. Although he is not physically sitting at our bar enjoying his Dewar's and water, his picture will remain on the mirror closely watching his bottle til his return.

Monday, July 2, 2007 - Post 280 Deployed Member We never forget our deployed members or our deployed soon-to-be members. We are eagerly awaiting their return. I'll buy steak dinner for anyone recently returning from deployment. Just swing by our Post on a Saturday night and ask for Laurie!
(Not responsible for anybody whose even thinking about touching that bottle of Dewars)

Monday, July 2, 2007 - Hello From Afghanistan Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and the watchful eye over the Dewar’s. It makes a big difference not only to me but to these young Soldiers I serve with to know that we have the support of the people we serve. There is not a more noble profession than that of a Soldier and I can truly claim that I serve with America’s finest.
Take care, I’ll see you all soon and trust me, I know how much Dewar’s was in the bottle when I left.

Thursday, December 18, 2008 - Holiday pot luck I was and still am very disappointed in the participation of the holiday Potluck. I think the food was great and the Patriot winners were as well. My disappointment is with post in gerneral. It was suppose to be a holiday get together yet it felt more like a funeral. No holidy music there was not festivity in the air. Not to mention only about 5 children. I have been a member of serveral VFW's over the years when they had Holiday(Christmas)parties this by far is the worst. There may have been maybe 20 people under the age of 40. In sleaking with some of them they also voiced disappointment. I also felt as though people just wanted it to end as quickly as possible. Why didn't we invite some of the families of the deployed in our area? It;s ashame that even the VFW has to be politically correct when it copmes to festivities and prayers. Ok so now that I have complained. What can we do to fix it in the future? first, be better organized. second, Get the word out. Go to local radio and newspapers, talk up the post and what we are doing for our younger vets and their families. What about adopting deployed veterans families over the holidays making sure they have what they need to enjoy the holidays as best they can. Lets get some fresh blood in these committes and executive areas that are not doing what they need to better the post. Where living in the past and trying to do things like it was in days gone by. In order to survive we have to look to the future and make the changes needed for the new breed of veteran in order for this post to survive. Last night I was so mad and disappointed I told several friends I'm thinking of leaving the post. But, that also would be wrong instead of running from it I plan on running toward it and doing everything I can to help the post. But I can't do it alone I/we need help. There are only a small group of members who have truely given of themselves to try and make the post better and volunteer. To these Members and the Lady's Aux as I salute you for your dedication.

For the rest of you get off your 4th point of contact (butt) and do something to help this Post to meet the potential it has.
