Recruiting School and more held at Monett Post 4207

Posted at 03:27 PM on Sunday, September 6, 2009 by Chet Tweten

State Senior Vice Commander Bob Wonnell, Certified National Recruiter Robert Harmon and District 18 Veterans Service Information Officer Ed Hawley teamed up to teach Recruiting, VSIO Referrals and Yellow Ribbon to the volunteers from District 7. The event was hosted by Monett VFW Post 4207.  Six of the District 7 Posts were in attendance  and three guests from Dept were there for the session.  The District 7 Recruiting Team members are:  Charles Patrick, Richard Smith,
Richard Edwards, Bill Breedlove, Dale Beckman, Brian Denney, Jim Hammond, Terry Clay and Richard Banks.

First to speak was Dept of Mo Sr-Vice Commander Bob Wonnell who talked about the "Yellow Ribbon" events and the importance of VFW posts being involved in the events

Sr-Vice CDR Wonnell was followed by Certified National Recruiter Bob Harmon of DeSoto VFW Post 1831.  Recruiter Harmon spoke at length on recruiting new members and ways to retain the members.  It was a very interesting talk full of many useful ideas.

Ed Hawley, District 18 Veterans Service Information Officer and member of Mtn Grove VFW Post 3770 finished the session with a short talk about the VSIO Program and the need of having "Veterans Information Benefit Fairs" and how to properly fill out and use the "Referrals".

The photos below were taken at random during the event.

August New/Reinstate Kick-off Month

Posted at 06:53 PM on Friday, August 7, 2009 by Chet Tweten

Start the VFW year right with a membership drive.  Start August 1st.

Get those unpaid lists from your Post Quartermaster.  (Quartermaster you can find those lists on VFW e-membership.)

Form calling teams and call comrades on the list and ask them to come back to the best Veterans organization in the free world.  Go pick up their dues if they can’t bring them in.  If they actually can’t afford to pay their dues use money from your relief funds.

Get your Post Recruiter and your Post Service Officer and set up a recruiting booth in town.  If you have left over Buddy Poppies take those along with you.

Let your local newspaper, radio and TV stations know and have a notice put in your church bulletins.  The VFW is having a membership drive.  .

We are asking each Post to get a minimum of five (5) new or reinstated members during the month of August.

Once this is accomplished you are well on your way to becoming an All State Post.

While you are out there, ask every veteran you talk to whether he or she has filed for VA benefits.      If they haven’t or if it’s been a long time since they filed, fill out a referral form and let them know one of our VFW Service Officer will call them in a few days.  The only thing keeping you from being successful is YOU.

Recruiting, retention and Veterans Service all in one package.  We can make it happen if we work together!
