MISSOURI GOVERNOR REVERSES DECISION ON "DIGITAL TAPS" FOR GUARD FUNERALS

Blunt revives policy on bugle tributes

JEFFERSON CITY — The solemn call of taps from a live bugler will once again honor Missouri's departed veterans, after Gov. Matt Blunt reversed a policy that had silenced such tributes.

Blunt ordered the Missouri National Guard on Friday to once again foot the bill for live buglers to play at the thousands of veterans' funerals held in the state each year.

Last week, the Guard said it could no longer afford the expense, which typically runs about $20 for each funeral. Instead, taps was to be sounded by a digital device fitted into the bugle's horn.
