August New/Reinstate Kick-off Month

Posted at 06:53 PM on Friday, August 7, 2009 by dist11

Start the VFW year right with a membership drive.  Start August 1st.

Get those unpaid lists from your Post Quartermaster.  (Quartermaster you can find those lists on VFW e-membership.)

Form calling teams and call comrades on the list and ask them to come back to the best Veterans organization in the free world.  Go pick up their dues if they can’t bring them in.  If they actually can’t afford to pay their dues use money from your relief funds.

Get your Post Recruiter and your Post Service Officer and set up a recruiting booth in town.  If you have left over Buddy Poppies take those along with you.

Let your local newspaper, radio and TV stations know and have a notice put in your church bulletins.  The VFW is having a membership drive.  .

We are asking each Post to get a minimum of five (5) new or reinstated members during the month of August.

Once this is accomplished you are well on your way to becoming an All State Post.

While you are out there, ask every veteran you talk to whether he or she has filed for VA benefits.      If they haven’t or if it’s been a long time since they filed, fill out a referral form and let them know one of our VFW Service Officer will call them in a few days.  The only thing keeping you from being successful is YOU.

Recruiting, retention and Veterans Service all in one package.  We can make it happen if we work together!

District 11 School of Instruction

Posted at 08:35 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 by dist11

District 11 School of Instruction was held July 25, 2009, at Post 6137 (Newport Heights).  Five posts were present for a fine powerpoint presentation by District Commander Deborah Halter.  Commander Halter had gone through the entire School of Instruction book and highlighted the segments through a powerpoint presentation that was very informative and also time-conserving.  The sixteen comrades in attendance were given copies of all the forms described and elaborated upon.  The school of instruction was included in their regular district meeting which was opened and closed in due form.  District chairman gave segments of the instruction that pertained to their areas of responsibility and expertise.  Service Fairs were discussed with the dates of October 17, 2009,  and April 17, 2010, given as tentative dates.
Surgeon Parks encouraged the posts to all become service officers and briefly reviewed some of the forms and procedures to process paperwork for our hard-working Veteran Service Officers.  Post 8888 had the high participationof 7 members present with the other posts having a good showing also.
