Dept Sr-Vice Commander Joe Lundy Memorial Service

    July 2, 2009, a memorial service was held in West Plaines, Missouri to honor Senior Vice-Commander Joe Lundy.  The service was conducted by Dept Chaplain Wayne Asher.  Flag ceremony was done by Past Dept Commander Jerry Jones, Past Dept Commander and Quartermaster/Adjutant Jessie Jones, Dept Junior Vice Commander Bob Wonnell and Dept Commander Dave Morgan.  The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW was represented by Senior Vice President Charlotte Jones. A celebration of Joe's life was held at the West Plains VFW Post 1828 after the service.

    It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of Sr. Vice Commander, Joe Lundy, on Saturday, June 27, 2009.  Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Robinson Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, Missouri.  Wayne Asher, State VFW Chaplain, will be officiating.  The family requests that no flowers be sent.   In lieu of flowers, _expressions of sympathy may be made to the Veterans Service Officer Program, Department of Missouri Veterans of Foreign Wars, P.O. Box 26, Jefferson City MO 65102-0026.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Drago Funeral Home, 417-256-2121.

    Saturday, June 13 2009, saw Department of Missouri Jr-Vice Commander Joe Lundy of Post 473 travel to Mtn View, Mo in honor of Post 3009 celebrating their 75th Anniversary.

National Guard Yellow Ribbon Training Seminar Kansas City June 5-6-7 2009.  
    Working as a team, Paul Frampton Dept. VSIO, Kathy Lee Dept. Service Officer Chris Bell Dist. 5 Sr. Vice Cmdr/Membership Chairman, Dist. 6 LAVFW President and Lyle Seelinger National CNR spent Fri eve through Sun afternoon talking to the members of KFOR10 and their families. 7 claims initiated, 12 referrals, 45 new members, several transfers, 6 "leads" for membership, 6 LAVFW members All this in 19 hours with the unit. 6 of these members are women and 1 husband/wife team.

VFW Memorial Day Ride

Start:           Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Cameron Veterans Home. 

7-8:30 am; Breakfast with Vets;

9:00 am; Kickstands up. 

Take Highway 36 to Junction 13 south.  Stay on same (95 miles, 2.5 hours)

Arrive:        11:30 am at Warrensburg Home 

11:30-1:30 Lunch with Vets,

1:45 pm; Kickstands up.  Gas up on south side of town on Hwy 13.

Bikers will be taking; Hwy 13 south to Collins, MO, junction 54 West (67 miles, 1.75 hours); Gas if needed at Collins (unless better place south).  Hwy 54 West to Cedar Springs; Junction 39 South (16 Miles, 17 minutes); Hwy 39 South to Mt. Vernon (61.5 miles, 2 hours).

Arrive:          4:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Home

                            4:00-6:30 pm; Dinner with Vets,

6:30 pm; Kickstands up. Gas before getting on 44 east; Stop at Marshfield for gas. Continue on Hwy 44 East to Rolla for overnight stay; top tanks off at night.  Americas Best Inns Rolla (150 Miles 2 hours to Rolla).

Sunday morning:

Leave              6:45 am; Kickstands up.  Take Hwy 44 East 10 miles to St. James Home 

7-8:30 am; Breakfast with Vets

9:00 am; kickstands up.  Take MO 68 to Hwy 63 North through Jeff City; Take Hwy 54 east all the way in to Mexico Home; Gas stop in Kingdom City.  (114 Miles 2 hours).

Arrive:            11:00 am; Mexico Home    

11:00-1:30 am; lunch with Vets,

1:45 pm; Kickstands up. Take Hwy 54 to Hwy 19 to I-70 East; take I- 270 North to Lewis /Clark off ramp; exit 331A.   (106 miles 2 hours) 

Arrive:            3:00 pm; St. Louis Veterans Home

5:00 pm; Kickstands up; Leaving the Home turn right onto Lewis and Clark; Merge onto I-270 towards Kansas City; 31.0 miles DO NOT TAKE  I-70 stay on I-270.   Exit at I-55 South via exit 1b-a; take A towards Memphis (121 Miles 2 hours)

Exit  99.  Post 3838 about one mile on the right will have dinner for us.

Monday morning:

Arrive:            7:00 am at Cape Home   (2400 Veterans memorial Drive: Kingshighway runs in front of the home.

7:00-8:30 am Breakfast with Vets; announce amounts each Home will receive. 

9:00 am Kickstands up;  Take Hwy 55 South (6 miles) ; Take the MO 74 W, Exit 93; Turn Right on MO 74 (5 miles),  Left on MO 25 (31.2 miles) to  Bloomfield, MO.

Arrive:            11:00 am Stars and Stripes Museum for Ceremony.         Safe travels home!
