National Aide-de-Camp
« on: December 01, 2007, 10:45:21 am »
Comrades,
I need a little info please.  I have a very close friend and Comrade in my Post that just received notice that he was appointed to the position of National Aide-de-Camp and he and I would like someone to give us a few clues as to what the duties are.  it is really not covered in the book.  If anyone out there has ever had any experience at being a National Aide-de-Camp please relate some of your experiences.
I posted the letter he received on the Post 3770 weblog available at  vfwwebcom.org/mo/post3770/28585/Mtn+Grove+VFW+Post+3770+has+National+Aide-de-Camp.html
check it out and leave some some congratulations.  He is not online at this time but is doing a bang-up job as Dist 18 VSIO.

In CA the award of a "State Aide-de-Camp" cap has been given as recognition for personally signing up over 25 new members one year.  That achievement falls under membership. But the title "Special Aide-de-Camp", I haven't the vaguest idea what the answer is.  I would expect the Department Commander that made the recommendation would (should) know the answer.  I would also expect the Dept Comdr to be sending Comrade Hawley a letter of congratulations.

I searched the VFW FAQ's for an answer and got zip.  So I submitted the question: "What are the duties of a "Special Aide-de-Camp" and how many are appointed by the National Commander?" and was given Question Ref No. 071201-000001 and informed "You should receive a response by email from our support department within the next business day."

Any bets on when the Support Department replies with the answer?.   8)

DD,
Thanks for trying.  No, I will not take that bet. Maybe "Troy from National" will jump in here when he gets on the job on Monday.
I do hope you will let us know the response you get.

Speaking of appointments!  It's time to "toot" my own horn.
Besides my other hats, I am also the District Quartermaster and the District Inspector. (Couple of years).
I have been appointed as Assistant Inspector General at National for 2007-2008. Several posts and the State Commander recommended me.

The State Commander has sent me to a couple of troubled post to assist them already.
(Admin, financial, canteen). There is a lot of posts out there. Posts can contact me also through the State Blog Site for assistance.
I am also to assist in membership (All appointees must do that).
AND almost anything else that may come up.

IJK3770,

The National Aide-De-Camp is an award to recognize someone who goes above and beyond. With that award comes some added responsibilities. You should, as you would probably do anyway, give any and all assistance, within your power,  to your Post, District, State and the National organization for the betterment of the organization. Thus the term Aide. Their are several types of Aide-De-Camps such as recruiting, Special and the regular Aide-De-Camp. Unless something has changed, that about sums it up. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Dear Mr. Kleinsmith,

A Special Aide-de-Camp is an honorary position, although you may be called upon to accompany the Commander-in-Chief and other National Officers during their visits to your Department.  This is the VFW way of saying thank you for your efforts in the organizations' behalf.

These appointments are based on membership.  Example, if a Department has 20% of the total national membership, then that department is awarded 2 Special Aide-de-Camp appointments.  Total
nationally, there are 125 Special Aide-de-Camp appointments available.

I hope I've answered your questions.  If there is anything else, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,

Lucinda Cox
