VFW Posts and Districts: Get Your Free Web Site/Blog Here!
« on: November 07, 2007, 10:44:40 pm »
Departments of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' VFW WebCOM Network is comprised of close to 10,000 pre-built, established hosted-sites for each of the 54 state and international Departments, their Districts and all 8,500 VFW Posts. Each department now has an integrated internal and external communications system at their disposal for consideration of universal deployment in support of existing and planned communication protocols.

Effective today we are extending an open invitation for all Posts and Districts to claim their VFW WebCOM Network site. If your Post already has a web presence this would be a great way to expand it. If your Post does not have a web presence this is a no cost way for you to establish one and start sharing with the world what your Post does in the community and Organization.

The Network has not been formally recognized by the National level of the organization at this time but is being aggressively rolled out through the nine VFW Departments of North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, New Hampshire,Alabama, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Iowa.

Over 5 years in the making and built with the oversight and to the specifications of VFW Department leadership and membership, its objectives are to foster:

    * More efficient organizational communication to your members and potential members.
    * More efficient organizational communication to your communities.
    * More efficient organizational communication to your legislators.
    * Generate revenue and resources for the organization.

In support of the Network, we have added Department toolbars, a video-sharing platform, instant WebCHAT, a Membership Forum and pre-built 31,000 VFW Department-specific Officer e-mail accounts which are transferable to the next person filling the position. E-commerce storefronts for each post, online calendars and much more are in the works.

Except for the aforementioned Departmental Networks the service will be offered to Posts and Districts without possibility of revenue generation until such time as the Network is recognized by National or your respective Department.

If your Post or District is within a Departmental Partners Network contact your Dept BlogMaster. If it is not please contact blogmasters@vfwwebcom.org and we will be happy to answer any questions and get you started.

You can find your Post weblog by going to http://www.vfwwebcom.org/postdirectory

« Reply #2 on: November 08, 2007, 11:43:13 pm »
If you have a My Space, Face book, or website we invite you to consider grabbing our video widget and help us share all the great things the VFW is doing and has done.

You can customize it to fit your site.

If you have videos or have come across video content that you believe would be of interest to the VFW WebCOM Network audience you can easily share them here.

Universal Domain System
« Reply #3 on: November 13, 2007, 12:07:54 pm »
When laying out a 10,000 site Network it is important to create a universal domain system so it is easy to manage and navigate. Thats what we have done.

The "National level" of the Network can be found at:

http://vfwwebcom.org

To go directly to any "Departmental level" in the Network start with vfwwebcom.org and ad a forward slash with the State or Department name spelled out like this:

http://vfwwebcom.org/virginia
http://vfwwebcom.org/missouri
http://vfwwebcom.org/wisconsin
htttp://vfwwebcom.org/northcarolina

Each District and Post site can be reached using the following formula, start with vfwwebcom.org and ad a forward slash with the State or Departments two letter abbreviaion followed by another forward slash:

To visit a Post site:

http://vfwwebcom.org/mo/post3770
http://vfwwebcom.org/nc/post670
http://vfwwebcom.org/va/post6364

To visit a District site:

http://vfwwebcom.org/mo/dist18
http://vfwwebcom.org/nc/dist8

Note that to visit any "Post or District level" site in the Network all you need to know is what State it is in and what its number is!

We realize this is a long address to get the general public to remember so we encourage each Post and District that claims their site to go to a place like http://godaddy.com and register a shorter name and point it to your site. Both domains will then bring visitors to your site. Look at this example:

http://vfwpost2087.org/
http://vfwwebcom.org/nc/post2087/

If you need any assistance be sure to let us know.

I have sent an email to claim a district site. I am assuming I will receive an authorization and how to modify the district page to fit the district.
