I was a member of the 3344th Airbase Squadron in 1983. I was there for technical training in Aircrew Life Support. Good times Smiley

I was at Chanute Jun-Oct of '82 for basic electronics and SRAM missile training. The base was beautiful with all the static aircraft and whatnot. I made a lot of friends there and I have some very fond memories of my time there. Some of those people I still keep in touch with today. I made a trip back there in '06 to check out the now deactivated base, and to say what I saw was depressing is an understatment. I understand some of the buildings are being used for various things, but most have just gone to hell and are falling apart. What a wonderful thing, this BRAC commission (idiots). When I left I had a sick feeling in my stomach. It's too bad our government leaders are allowed to butcher our military bases like this. There are MANY nonsensical things our tax dollars are being spent on they could cut to save money instead of closing our bases.
