Curious about the reasons why some never attend district meetings.  Please explain.

I have asked this question many times myself. The answers range from, Church,to far to drive, to boring. Only one I can't argue with is Church.

When I retired from the Army and got involved in the VFW,
I knew nothing about District Meetings until a friend invited me  Shocked
to ride along with him to one.
I attended them solidly for over ten years.  It opened my eyes,
got me to ask questions, and made lots of knew friends and
identified who the ingoranus's were.  Roll Eyes

I attended a District meeting today. Not required as just a lowly widget [left hand thread] counting QM.
I accompanied my Commander to ask a question, before the meeting, of the District QM. I did know the answer nor could I find it in VFW FAQ, e-membership or QM Tools.
Not happy!
The answer I got was flippant and I was told to forgettabout it. Do nothing!
I do not appreciate a condescending attitude. Especially from an DISTRICT Officer!
Having learned that District meetings are about buying - selling pins & voting payment for District Officers to attend luncheons, I understand why out of 20 posts less than 10 show up!
I would venture the opinion that this may be a reason membership in any and all groups decrease. Patronization was why we are no longer Active Military.
Excuse my rant. Being able to so speak is why I enjoy this Forum!
Just my view!

d.peirce,
What was the question?  I am sure someone here can give you a reasonable answer.  If you do not wish to state it here then you know how to contact me in the chat.

I have no desire to be a District or Department Officer and sell my sole
to the VFW.  I am one who pisses off those at District meetings and demands
an answer when I don't get one.  If they don't know, I expect them to say so.
I am quick to remind them that I as a member of the VFW I entitled an answer
from officers who took an oath of obligation.

Being a Past District Cdr, I would have taken the time to field your question. If I did not know the answer, I would have taken your contact information so I could let you know the answer once I found it.
As far as the Posts who do not attend the District Meetings, their Cdrs ought to read their Duties as spelled out in Section 218 of the Manual of Proceedure, "k. Assure that he or his representative attend all properly called District Conventions or meetings and County Council meetings (if applicable)." In Missouri, we are enforcing it and the attendance in my District went up significantly.
