Question regarding meetings
« on: July 13, 2009, 01:38:39 pm »
I've been a Ladies Aux member for almost 5 years. It has always just been understood that you don't bring drinks (alcoholic beverages) into the meeting. Well, I recently transferred posts, and many of these women are bringing their drinks into the meeting from the canteen. I would love to say something, but I can't find anything about it in our purple Ladies Aux bylaws book - I find the section about smoking and cell phones, but nothing about drinks. Can someone please help?

I agree that it is inappropriate to attend a meeting under the influence. You wouldn't, or should I say shouldn't,  handle your personal affairs drunk so why would you handle post affairs in that manner?

I think it is a matter of common sense and I don't think you'd be out of line by suggesting members refrain from drinking until the meeting is finished. If somebody has a problem with that maybe they should not attend and/or seek some sort of help.

Hopefully somebody can help you find something in writing that supports this. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Axillary By-Laws.

According to Bylaws and Ritual of 2005 of the Ladies Auxiliary...

Ritualistic Practice -
No alcoholic beverages will be permitted during Auxiliary meetings.
There shall be no smoking in the Auxiliary room while the meeting is in progress.

More than likely that remains in the newest edition of the Bylaws.  I will have my new book very soon and will update you once I have reviewed it.
