I did a Poker Run for our Post.  The stops were a mix between VFW > American Legion > VFW and so on, alternating.  With the support of all the Posts involved, each Post was welcome to do what ever they wanted during the stops to help them and contribute.  Our problem was a heavy fog that morning but all in all we still showed a profit.  If anyone would like to contact me on this I still have all the documents, maps, letters to Commander's of other Posts, fliers and so on.

The help of our Ladies and Men's Auxiliary played a crucial role in the entire event.  I highly recommend this as we get veteran's to come and perhaps join, new young people to come in and so forth.  We never had any issues with any of the "bikers" as they all know it was a Veteran sponsored even and everyone respected it was a VFW/American Legion that made this event happen.

Again, I can send you any information I still have, you can use it as a model or simply overwrite my work to help your Post make it a successful event.  With many local businesses in the area, they were happy to donate gift certificates for dinners, Harley donated shirts and gift certificates.  My only disappointment was Hooters said they will send three judges for the bike competition and they bailed out on us without a word before hand.  I know some my consider the Hooter girls as risque but it's your call.

That is a great idea. We wanted to do one but it would be on a bus so that people didn't have to worry about the whole drinking and driving issue. It never got off the ground because of the price of the bus. It is a shame that Hooters bailed on you. I hope that you contacted them about it.

Thanks, we looked at the bus thing too but there didn't seem as much interest in our Post and the expense of the bus was pretty much expensive.  We did however opened it to cars as well, only exception is each person in the car would pay the full entry as apposed to a person on the back of a bike would pay 5 bucks less.  We've also gave the option of playing two hands, the second hand was 5 or 10 bucks less.

The prize was for the best hand (of course) and then we offered a prize for the worse hand, that prize money was never posted but based on how much we would clear after expenses.

With so many donations, everyone walked away with something.  Our Men's Auxiliary hit almost every business within a 20 mile radius and normally with success.  Barb's Harley donated two 150 buck gift certificates the another Harley dealer gave us three 50 buck certificates not to mention free oil changes and stuff.

Like I said, the ground work is already done if you want the forms I made up.

Thanks again for the complement.
