A spokesman for the Department of Veterans Affairs apologized Friday after a senior official falsely claimed that a Greensboro attorney had never worked there.
The issue had arisen after a Florida man took his disability claim to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida.
His letter mentioned Greensboro attorney Craig Kabatchnick, who, after leaving the VA in the mid-1990's, has been representing veterans against his former employer.
Nelson, in turn, mentioned Kabatchnick in his query to the VA.
Daniel Cooper, the VA's undersecretary for benefits, claimed in a response to Nelson that Kabatchnick never had worked for the VA.
