A guy I work with just returned from leave and he got a great deal on a brand new home while he was back in the states. The VA Home Loan program helped him get a great rate.

In California, we have the Cal-Vet Loan Program which beats the GI VA Home loan interest rate.  To check it out, visit: http://www.vfwwebcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,224.msg558.html#msg558jQuery(document).ready(function($){jQuery(function(){jQuery("#msg_11458").css("min-height", "50px");jQuery("#msg_11458").hoverIntent(function(){jQuery("#msg_11458").css("overflow-y", "hidden");jQuery(".sharethis_11458").delay(100).fadeIn();},function(){jQuery(".sharethis_11458").delay(300).fadeOut();});});});Tweet

But who wants to buy a house in California?!  ;)

HueyCarl:
My mother in law qualifies for the VA home loan, through her late husband who was in Vietnam and died from something he contracted from the war. Agent orange? I think? I'm not sure. Anyway. She wants to use this VA loan to get me and my husband a house. Can she do this if she isn't planning on living there? Also, is the VA home loan based on her income....?

I'm not 100% sure and it would be best to check with the VA. However, I believe that the person using the benefit must live in the home and the VA Home Loan benefit is kind of like having the government co-sign for you. It should help reduce your interest rate but your personal credit rating will probably play a larger role.

Check out the VA Home Loan page for more info...jQuery(document).ready(function($){jQuery(function(){jQuery("#msg_12025").css("min-height", "50px");jQuery("#msg_12025").hoverIntent(function(){jQuery("#msg_12025").css("overflow-y", "hidden");jQuery(".sharethis_12025").delay(100).fadeIn();},function(){jQuery(".sharethis_12025").delay(300).fadeOut();});});});Tweet
