Covers for meetings
« on: March 29, 2016, 11:13:53 pm »
I've been a member of the VFW for a long time, but it's always been as the State general, and I just joined my first post.  After 10 years, LOL it took awhile to find the right one!  My question is I was reading the instructions on covers during meetings, I see where they discuss colors for officers versus members.  I was in the VFW store and saw the khaki, or suntan as they called it, but I can not find anywhere in any of the national bylaws that say it is a legal cover.  Can someone provide me an instruction or bylaw page?  Thanks!

I believe both the "suntan" and the Shade 451 are legal in the eyes of the national organization.  The VFW Store wouldn't sell unauthorized apparel.  I recommend you purchase a hat that reflects that worn by other members of your post.

Unless I am mistaken... you wear the highest level of office you achieved at any VFW function, including meetings... that is unless you hold a specific position and have a cap for that position.

i.e. I was Post SVC for a couple years and now am Dist. SVC... if I go to a Post meeting I wear the District cap, not the Post cap.

It is permissible to wear which ever hat you have. It is also not a bad idea to wear the level hat you have at the level function you are at.
I have from Post Cdr, Dist Cdr (plus All State), and National Aide de Camp. I wear what ever I grab.
