2012 Resolution to Admit Men to the Auxiliary

If anybody reading this is attending the 2012 National Convention in Reno, would you please post the status of this resolution after the vote?  Vote is to be held on Sunday afternoon.  It's killing me that I'm not there to see it in person.   Thanks!

It is my understanding that the VFW took off the table any changes to Article 11 concerning the Ladies Auxiliary.

This is not a VFW resolution - it is a Ladies Auxiliary resolution.  What it says is that starting at the conclusion of the 2016 National Convention, the Ladies Auxiliary organization would become known as "The Auxiliary to the VFW" and men would become eligible for admission (under the same membership criteria the ladies currently have in place.) 

The resolution is very explicit that this would NOT be a merging of the Ladies Aux and the Men's Aux, as the Ladies Aux has no authority whatsoever over the Men's Aux.  It would simply allow men to join our organization.  If the resolution passes, it would then be on the VFW to decide what (if anything) to do with the men's auxiliaries.

This resolution is being introduced by the LAVFW National Line Officers.

It was also on the table as sponsored by the Department of Virginia until cut by the National By Laws and Resolutions Committee at the final publication of the Proposed Changes.

The LAVFW National line officers made it clear in their resolution that VFW had approved it, so maybe VFW is just waiting to see what the ladies do at this point...

I think it is a few power brokers who are afraid of the power that 2 powerful independent Auxiliaries may create. They have been doing their best to handicap the Mens Auxiliary even before National Membership approved it over them. Then in the past years did their best to diminish it. This is their newest attempt.

A Post Will become a stronger that has, appreciates, and works with its Auxiliary(s).

If they work on taking their power, this greatly reduces their ability to serve Veterans and their Community. And the Community will see right through it.

Though I am not in position to render policy, I highly recommend that all looks into the history of all of these proposals. Look for ways of streamlining the Ladies Ritual and work on understanding the inner thinking of Potential New Members as to how to make the respective Auxiliaries appealing to them.

As the VFW came up with their 100 year anniversary book, I have seen very little on the history of the Ladies Auxiliary. It would be a great tool on aiding on rebuilding your Membership Base on showing your Proud Heritage. It would also aid those like myself on understanding the true need for the Ladies Auxiliary as it is.

Just wanted to let you guys know I got my answer:

The Ladies Auxiliary resolution to allow men to join our organization starting in 2016 was defeated by a very slim margin yesterday.  Back to the drawing board...

Even if it would of passed at the Ladies Convention, it could not be activated until Article 12 gets changed.

We were just notified the same resolution is on the agenda for Louisville.  The resolution states that, if passed, the Ladies Aux would become "The Auxiliary to the VFW" on August 1, 2016 and men would become eligible for membership - under the same eligibility criteria as the women.

Some Departments are so dern clueless to reality that they have refused to allow any posts in their depts to establish a Mens Auxiliary - and it is from these depts that this is coming every year.  It should instead become mandatory for depts to allow posts to establish Mens Auxiliaries if they wish.  the depts that have allowed Mens Auxiliaries are also hampered by National's refusal to allow them to establish dept level Mens Auxiliaries.  So National is also part of the blame.  I think it will be detrimental to the established local  Ladies Auxiliaries for this to happen.

I have to agree with you for the most part.  As a LAVFW member, I feel for the men's aux members I work with.  They so want to be involved and productive, but some of the post members seem offended by their very presence.   One post officer told me he thought it was ridiculous that guys who weren't even combat vets should have any say in anything at their post.  How can you even argue with that kind of logic?!

    One cant argue with that kind of logic, he has a closed mind.  Actually the members of the Mens Auxiliary have no more say about the Post itself than the Ladies Auxiliary but should be on an equal footing with them. One does not have to be a veteran to join the Mens Auxiliary as so many think.  They have the same qualifications as the Ladies Auxiliary does and they certainly do not have to be a combat veteran or even a veteran.

Lets not forget the District and Post Cmdr's that refuse to promote and recognize both Men and Ladies Auxiliaries and are clueless and/or jealous to what positive things Aux's can do for their dying Posts.  These Cmdr's want to be king of their castle.
