Greetings

I'm not a military veteran. I've been to many VFW posts, and I like them. I'd like to join a men's auxillary so I can patronize my local VFW. I have my father's DD214. He served in WW2, however he did not serve overseas. My uncle was in Korea, but his DD214 was lost in St. Louis during a flood. I tried to join a local VFW Men's Auxillary, I paid my $25 and gave them a copy of my father's DD214. However, I was called about 2 weeks later and told I couldn't join since my father did not serve overseas. (My $25 was not returned). In view of my circumstance, is there a VFW organization I can join that will give me VFW post privledges? Thank you!

Post 4337 is about 200 yards from my trailer. I know most of the people there so I can pretty much walk in when I want, but I'd feel a lot better if I was an aux member. Post 4337 doesn't have a men's auxillary. So I'd like to find a men's auxillary at another post to join if possible.

The thing is BruceTheEagle it does not appear that you are eligible to join a Mens Auxilairy anywhere.

I know my mother's brother served in Korea. I asked him about it, and he told me that his records were lost in a flood in St. Louis. My father's brother served in WW2 and saw action. He died about 25 years ago. Am I correct that if I could come up with an uncle's DD214, I'd be eligible to join a men's auxillary?

No. Men's Auxiliary membership is limited to:
"Husbands, widowers, fathers, grandfathers, sons, grandsons, brothers, half brothers of persons who were or are eligible to join the VFW."
No nephews. You are not eligible under your Uncle.

it is correct that u cannot join under a uncle. you say your father served in WW11. A lot of records were lost in the St Louis fire. In had a member who could not find his grandfathers DD214. Had him check
http://vetrecs.archives.gov
which you can do as a family member. While he did not find the DD214 he did find the payroll records for his grandfather under the command of McArthur in Pacific Theater in 1944.

If your father served for 1n year on american soil during the war (WWII) he is entitled to an american campaign ribbon and would be qualified for VFW Membership thus qualifiing you for aux membership

The LA By-Laws state: American Campaign for Army-Navy Dec. 7, 1941 - Mar. 2, 1946 (30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days of duty OUTSIDE continental limits of the U.S.) I would think the VFW By-Laws say the same.
