Eligiblity Question
« on: November 11, 2011, 02:31:42 pm »
Having served in the USAF during the Desert Shield / Storm I know I am qualified in that respect for the VFW.  My question is in the type of DC that I received.

Is a veteran with a General Under Honorable Conditions DC acceptable to become a VFW member?

The eligibility requirement states that the member must have served honorably.  It doesn't state that a general discharge makes a member (potential member) ineligible.

You have the key word in your Discharge, Honorable. If you meet the rest of the qualifiers, you qualify. My guess is that your Discharge is reflective of their disclaiming their responsibility bto care for your PTSD.

I'd like to point out one thing...just having served during Desert Shield/Storm doesn't guarantee you are qualified.  You must still have received at least one of the awards of that conflict required for membership.

Having "served" dosen't qualify you. You MUST have served in the COMBAT ZONE and have one of the ribbons and medals that were issued for the period of DS/DS
