Welcome to Departments of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' VFW WebCOM Network. This Network is comprised of close to 10,000 pre-built, established sites for each of the 54 state and international Departments, their Districts and all 8,500 VFW Posts.by DD
"Infantrymen who served in ground combat during World
War II between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945, are eligible to
apply for a Bronze Star Medal (BSM), according to the U.S. Army Human
Resources Command. Approval is virtually guaranteed for those recipients
of the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB) or the Combat Medic's Badge
(CMB). Army regulations that govern this award may be found in AR
600-8-22, Military Awards.
Next of kin may apply for the posthumous award(s). If the veteran has
previously received a BSM during combat for a specific act of bravery,
he or his next of kin is still eligible to apply for a BSM."

As an organization that is accustomed to serving and helping others, we now find ourselves seeking assistance in our time of need. The Post home located at 1960 Freedom Boulevard recently incurred major damage to the sewer line. Although we sought out and received the best bid we could secure, the cost of the repairs is quite formidable - $17,500. Under normal circumstances this expense would be burdensome, but it is especially difficult at this time, as our funds are greatly depleted. One of our largest sources of revenue is our annual Fourth of July Fireworks sales. Because of the devastating fires in California, our fireworks sales were prohibited this year. While we are concerned for the safety of our community, this means we have lost our major source of funding that we have been fortunate enough to depend upon in the past. In light of the situation, we face some difficult time ahead and fear that some of the programs that we have proudly promoted and supported may be curtailed. We face the possibility, that for one of the first times, we might not be able to participate in our Youth Activities Programs, including Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Scholarships, Little and Pony Leagues, as well as the Childrens Christmas Party. Other threatened programs include the Firefighter/Police Recognition Programs and Holiday Food Baskets distribution. We certainly hope that this will not be the case, but we need your help. So we appeal to our community members, businesses, leaders and supporters to lend a hand. With your generosity we can continue to serve and participate in these vitally important community programs and make necessary repairs to the Post home. Please accept our invitation to be part of that effort. Tax-deductible donations [ Tax I.D. No. 94-6091991 ] can be forwarded to: VFW Post 1716, P.O. Box 716, Freedom CA 95019, Attn: John Walker/Quartermaster.by DD

Our Post spent $75 and donated 14 pounds of Maxwell House coffee, 5 boxes (100 ea) of tea bags, 5 canisters (37 servings ea) of NestleŐs instant hot chocolate, and a box (500 servings) of Equal sweetner to the Clinic. Chaplain Kleinsmith, Ret Army, shopped at the Commissary and made delivery. We are veterans helping veterans. Our VA Doctors and nutrition advocates want diabetics and other veterans to have a healthy alternative to glazed donuts and caffeine. The clinic appreciates donations of fresh fruit as an alternative healthy snack food for our veterans visiting the Donut Room. So if you have fruit trees at home and an appointment at the clinic, take a bag or box of fruit with you. www1.va.gov/directory/guide/facility.asp?ID=5199by DD

They do the drawing on a random basis, so everyone has a chance. Enter every name you can think of and forward this to as many as you can. I think it is a great idea!! https://www.dunkindonuts.com/aboutus/contact/Feedback.aspx?type=4 Let's send them a cup of joe on us!!by DD

The installation of Post and Auxiliary Officers for the ensuing 2008-09 year was held at our May meeting. I extend my congratulations to our newly elected and appointed Post and Auxiliary officers. I now you will provide your duties with pride and honor. I am honored to have been elected your newest Commander. I know there is a lot of history in our Post and I will do my best not to let you down. When I joined this Post I asked myself four questions. What has our post accomplished as a veterans organization? What does our post want to accomplish in the future? What can we change or improve to make things run smoother in the future? and What can I do to help our post accomplish those goals? My duties and those of this incoming years corps of officers and Chairmen will begin June 25th. I want to thank all the members, ladies, their families and our friends for their support and trust that they have placed in me. Your membership adds to our spirit and our voice in California and Washington DC in protecting Veterans Benefits and Entitlements. Without you, the front door would surely be closed forever. In preparation of Independence Day, we will be selling fireworks 28 June thru July 4 at our Post. We will again be putting up the Avenue of Flags on the 4th of July starting at 6 a.m. and return back to the hall for a great breakfast. It would be nice to see some new faces, and donŐt forget we have to take the flags down at 4 p.m. Spread the word !!! Our July Post and Auxiliary meetings will be moved to Wednesday July 9th so not to interfere with fireworks sales and family gatherings. This will be the first meeting of the new VFW year. I asking for you to attend and volunteer where you can, even if it is just once or one activity a year. We have lots to accomplish and There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it does not matter who gets the credit. Emerson. I believe in the Open Door Policy and solicit your ideas, help, suggestions, and solutions to things that you consider problems, and ways to make our organization better. In Comradeship, David Ambriz, Commander. E-mail: davebreeze1238@aol.comby DD
V.F.W. Post 1716 can assist with the proper disposal of an American Flag if you should own one. There are very specific rules and regulations about displaying and disposing of the American Flag. Our flag is a symbol of freedom and should always be treated with respect, great care and reverence. If a flag has become tattered, worn or faded, it should be disposed of properly rather than just tossed out with the trash. VFW Post 1716 will then properly dispose of the flag according to regulations as prescribed by the United States Flag Code. Those who do not reside near the VFW are asked to contact their local Boy Scout Council to find a troop that accepts flags for disposal. We salute you for being a proud American and ask that you continue to respect our symbol of freedom, the flag of the United States of America.
