Shawn Pander Donates Song Proceeds to VFW Foundation
Posted at 11:05 PM on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 by VFW News
Singer Shawn Pander has recently released his latest album, Memories 4 Sale, a collection of relatable stories that are also undoubtedly unique.
One of the most moving tracks on the album is the war-inspired tune, "Tell Mama", which tells the story of "a soldier who can't imagine ever re-entering civilian life after witnessing the tragedies of war. He is writing a tear-stained letter to his brother, asking him to give his goodbyes and apologies to his family."
Pander has decided to give 100% of the download proceeds of "Tell Mama" to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation and has now partnered with the VFW for a tour of military bases around the country. Pander will be performing for injured troops as well as troops waiting to be sent overseas.
Shawn himself is familiar with the hardships military service can bring to families. "I grew up with several family members in the military and a grandfather that spent 24 years in the Marine Corp and fought in Korea and Vietnam. I always felt like I had some sort of an idea of what war life was like through their stories."
