Southern Conference Convention opens on VFW Day in Greensboro

The Southern Conference Convention is under way in Greensboro, North Carolina and it's VFW Day in the city:

Proclamation
Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States grew from local organizations founded in 1899 to help obtain health care and pensions for those who fought in the Spanish-American War and the Phillippine Insurrection; and
Whereas, this year, the VFW is celebrating 107 years of tradition, advocacy, and service by sponsoring special programs and events across our state and nation; this year the VFW Southern Conference Convention will be held in North Carolina for the first time in fourteen years; and
Whereas, the VFW continues its efforts to secure adequate benefits for the courageous men and women who defend our nations's freedoms while promoting patriotism and community service; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Keith Holliday, Mayor of the City of Greensboro, do hereby proclaim November 3, 2006 as
in Greensboro and request our citizens to recognize the significant contributions of this organization.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto set my hand and cause the corporate seal of the City of Greensboro to be affixed, this 1st day of November 2006.
