No Free Credit Monitoring: VFW Outraged

WASHINGTON, July 18, 2006--The commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliaries is outraged that the government is reneging on its offer to help 26.5 million veterans and servicemembers monitor their credit files.

In a letter dated today to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, White House Budget Director Rob Portman said he is canceling the administration's request for $160.5 million in additional funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs primarily because forensic FBI examinations of the recovered computer and data revealed "with a high degree of confidence" that the files were not compromised. >Read More
